National Carbon Cocky Award for Outstanding Performance in SOIL CARBON SEQUESTRATION

This award will be presented to a primary producer or landholder involved in primary production who demonstrates a measured increase in soil carbon levels… and has adopted land management practices that are recognised to increase soil carbon.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. The applicant has achieved successful adoption of innovative practices that are generally recognised to increase soil carbon levels and that deliver improved productivity, and demonstrate the principles that need to be used in land management to increase soil carbon levels for example:
    • Ground cover
    • Perenniality
    • Balanced nutrition
    • Soil management
    • Biodiversity… in pasture species and rotation of crops
  2. The applicant can measure increases in soil carbon levels OR demonstrate innovative practices OR activities that deliver improved productivity and commercial outcomes while at the same time improving natural resource management. If possible attach records for judges’ information.
  3. The applicant has implemented restoration of the productive capacity of the soil.
  4. The applicant has demonstrated commitment to the long term health and performance of the soil.
  5. The applicant has adopted a learning attitude towards biosequestration and biodiversity.

National Carbon Cocky Award for Outstanding NEW PRODUCT AND/OR MANAGEMENT PROCESS

This award will be presented to a business or organisation who has developed a product and/or processes to improve natural resource management and/or land based carbon storage or emissions reduction.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. The applicant has successfully developed a product or a service/process that delivers potential improved productivity and commercial outcomes in farm operations, improves natural resource management and or reduces emissions. This can be demonstrated by:
    • Development of products and/or services not previously applied to primary production;
    • Delivering products and/or services for primary production that were previously only being researched;
    • Developing products and/or services that will improve productivity and natural resource management outcomes;
    • Inventing or pioneering new products and/or services which could increase soil carbon levels and/or emissions reduction.
  2. The applicant has shared their discoveries with the agricultural community.
  3. The applicant is committed to supporting land and other sectors to achieving long term health of the soil, increasing soil sequestration and/or reducing emissions.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding leadership

This award will be presented to a primary producer or landholder involved in primary production who demonstrates a learning attitude and sharing their knowledge of sustainable farming practices and increased land based carbon storage.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. Inspirational leadership in the education and advocacy of carbon farming in Australia.
  2. Deliver a positive pathway to achieve best farm practice and increased land based carbon storage.
  3. Facilitation of partnerships between farmers, industry, NRM regional bodies, Landcare, government and communities… sharing knowledge on carbon farming science management and/or policy.
  4. Making a positive contribution by giving time and energy to mentor and provide encouragement to others.
  5. Developing successful enterprises or opportunities to build stronger farming communities
  6. Formed partnerships, sought advice and worked with others to promote soil health as a worthwhile focus for any farmer.
  7. Demonstrating by their actions a sense of responsibility for promoting the role of soil carbon in sustainable agriculture.
  8. Earn recognition and respect from peers for their contribution and knowledge.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding performance in tree or native vegetation carbon sequestration

This award will be presented to a primary producer, landholder or group involved in major vegetation improvement who demonstrates increase in tree carbon levels and/or restored native vegetation… and has adopted land management practices to ensure carbon levels will be built and maintained.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. The applicant can measure increases in tree carbon levels or has implemented planning processes or projects to increase tree carbon levels. If possible attach records for judges’ information.
  2. The applicant has implemented planning processes or projects to achieve restoration of native vegetation and the productive capacity of the land.
  3. The applicant has demonstrated commitment to the long term health and performance of natural resources including trees.
  4. The applicant has adopted a learning attitude towards natural resource management and shown leadership in encouraging the farming community to engage with natural resource improvements.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding on farm iNNOVATION OR INVENTION

This award will be presented to a primary producer or landholder involved in primary production who implements innovative practices or an invention to improve natural resource management and land based carbon storage.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. The applicant has successfully adopted innovative practices or activities that delivers improved productivity and commercial outcomes while at the same time is improving natural resource management
  2. The applicant has implemented innovative practices that will improve productivity outcomes in farm operations. This can be demonstrated by:
    1. Use of techniques not previously applied in their geographic area to primary production;
    2. Application of practices in primary production that were previously only being researched;
    3. Developing techniques that will improve productivity and natural resource management outcomes.
    4. Inventing or pioneering new techniques and practices which could increase soil carbon levels and soil health.
  3. The applicant has shared their discoveries with the agricultural community.
    The applicant demonstrates a commitment to the long term health and performance of the soil.
  4. The applicant has adopted a learning attitude towards biosequestration and biodiversity… co-operating with nature… understanding the landscape and practising and managing agriculture ecological systems on their land.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding Achievement by a PRIMARY PRODUCER IN EMISSIONS REDUCTION

This award will be presented to a primary producer of farmer whose farm management practices demonstrate reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. Develop a whole of farm Green House Gases emissions profile.
  2. Adapt new technologies and practices that reduce Green House Gases emissions.
  3. Demonstrate commitment to long term reduction in Green House Gases emissions.
  4. Have undertaken an Emmisions Reduction project.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding performance in CARBON TRADING innovation

This award will be presented to an Individual or Company or group who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to deliver accepted Projects under any method which benefits Rural and Regional Australia, achieves increased Carbon Sequestration or Emissions Reduction and which may lead to Carbon Trading.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. Have developed one or more innovations which can lead to Carbon Trading (ERF or other).
  2. Shown industry commitment or leadership by their actions.
  3. Demonstrate commitment to long term mentoring/monitoring of Farmers who have committed to the Methods.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding achievement in improved water management on farm

This award will be presented to a Landholder who has demonstrated commitment to achieve improved Farm Water Flow on Farm. This could be via Water Ponding, Slowing the movement of water over the Landscape, or other methods of improving Water Management.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. New, On Farm Infrastructure work which can be shown to have:
    • Slowed water flow over the Landscape (allowing infiltration)
    • Improved water flow throughout the property
    • Improved Storage and/or reticulation on farm – Including troughs/piping etc
    • Improved protection of waterways – alternative waterpoints for stock etc.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For excellence in development of A carbon farming plan

Development of a Farm Plan which may include:

  1. Grazing Management Plan.
  2. Soil Nutrition Plan.
  3. Soil Structure Improvement Plan.
  4. Tree and Shrub Establishment and Management Plan.
  5. Tillage practices Plan.
  6. Stubble Management Plan.
  7. Carbon Farm plan for Carbon Project Establishment. Your plan may be developed in conjunction with other partners and may include aspects under any method – NOT JUST ERF.
  8. Energy Savings Plan on Farm – Solar/Wind etc.
  9. Lowering emissions from Fertiliser use – or cattle / sheep / machinery / pumping etc.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For demonstrated improvement in carbon management in horticulture or viticulture

This award will be presented to the Farmer/Landholder who demonstrates improvement in either Emissions Reduction or Carbon Sequestration in the Horticulture or Viticulture industries.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. May have made improvements in on-farm:
    • Energy Consumption
    • Water Management
    • Soil improvements which can lead to soil carbon sequestration
    • Tree/Vegetation PlantingsInfrastructure works which lead to reduction in emissions – can include solar / wind.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Outstanding Achievement by a NON PRIMARY PRODUCER IN EMISSIONS REDUCTION

This award will be presented to a primary industry service provider who has demonstrated good practices in the reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases for the benefit of their customers e.g. lowering costs for clients through Emissions Reductions.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. Develop or adapt new technologies and practices that reduce Green House Gases emissions.
  2. Install and monitor new systems that reduce Green House Gases emissions.
  3. Develop positive environment product/s of benefit to the soil and/or improve environmental management.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to long term reduction in Green House Gases emissions in the agriculture industry.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For excellence in cutting edge agronomy

This award will be presented to a qualified Agronomist who has embraced Carbon Farming/Regenerative Farming Ethos when delivering Agronomic advice to clients.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. Testimonials from Clients
  2. Evidence of written advice
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of Carbon Farming and/or Regenerative Farming.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to development of new Agronomic practices.

National CARBON COCKY AWARD For Best Achievement by a Regional Council to encourage Carbon Farming / Emissions Reduction or related Low Emissions industries

This award will be presented to a Regional Council who has implemented or encouraged Carbon Farming, or Related Low Carbon Industries for the good of the Farmers and Regional Districts.

JUDGING CRITERIA

To be eligible you do not have to fulfil every criterion. These are listed as a guide. All nominations are welcome.

  1. Evidence that the Council has encouraged the new Low Carbon Economy by:
    • Enabling projects to be established.
    • Encouraged participation in projects
    • Took a positive approach to any projects put forward for consideration.
    • Enabled publicity for projects.
    • Bought initiatives of their own to improve knowledge/publicity in these areas.
