Dr Thakur Bhattarai is Programme Manager (and Technical Specialist on Soil and Carbon) at Carbon Link, Australia, and also an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at Central Queensland University, Australia. In addition, Dr Bhattarai is a member of Technical Working Group, formed by the Australian Government, to advise the Department of the Environment to improve the current carbon farming methodologies. He is leading a number of large-scale soil and carbon projects in Australia in collaboration with universities, governmental organisations, NRM Regional Groups and several industry partners.
Dr Bhattarai has a practical, hands-on, capability, both academic and Industrial perspective on life. Dr Bhattarai has over 15 years experiences in soil carbon accounting, carbon management, Agro-Forestry systems, and natural resource management, forest and environmental services and GIS mapping, including REDD+ mechanism, and speaks widely in Australia, UK, Nepal and south Asian countries.
Dr Bhattarai received competitive International Postgraduate Research Scholarship for his PhD at Central Queensland University Australia and also the British Marshal Papworth Scholar for his MSc at Cranfield University in the UK. He completed PhD, entitled “Payment for Carbon Services for climate change mitigation and sustainable development. He graduated in Forestry Degree from the Institute of Forestry, Tribhuvan University, Pokhara in 1999. He has published several dozens of articles in national and international journals.
