Melissa wears many hats, a director of her company Climate & Agricultural Support Pty Ltd, Councillor, Researcher, farmer, board and group member, communicator and more.
Melissa’s is from a farming family. She has a passion for agricultural, climate and the environmental industry and worked for state government for 20 years working as a senior researcher in climate change adaptation in agriculture.
Over the last 5 years Melissa has established her company Climate & Agricultural Support Pty Ltd, where she has worked extensively with agricultural and environmental stakeholders establishing the Fleurieu Farming Systems Group of 400 plus members, developing and implementing and communicating on 7 projects relating to soil health, biochar use, dung beetles, soil moisture conservation and more.
Melissa strongly promotes information transfer and linkages between key groups and boards she has established herself on including, the SA Dairy Industry Fund, Alexandrina Sustainable Agriculture Roundtable Discussion Group (ASART), Ranges to River NRM Group, Fleurieu Farming Systems Inc, SA Livestock Consultants, Fleurieu Beef Group, and more. She has facilitated discussion between groups on many topics such as ground water management, water licencing, water for cape barren geese in the Ramsar Wetlands.
In an effort to do more for her region Melissa campaigned for Alexandrina Council as a councillor and strongly promoted her passion for the health of the MDB and the environment and agriculture. She won a position as a councillor in Nov 2018. Since then she has nominated for positions on the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Community Advisory Panel, the Murray Darling Association – Region 6, the Environmental Advisory Panel and the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre Authority.
Melissa is an experienced public speaker, she has published many papers, books and presented at numerous conferences, seminars and workshops. She is experienced with media interviews, radio speaking and has written an article in the back page of the stock journal on climate for 16 years.
